Presley Poitras

Presley Poitras (Wad Gadagaang) is a First Nations artist of Haida descent on his mothers' side. He was born into the St'laang 'Laanaas Raven Clan of Yan, of Northern Haida Gwaii. His crests are Thunderbird, Cumulus Cloud, Killer Whale, Grizzly Bear, Hawk, and Raven. Presley's father is of Cree descent from Fort Qu'Appelle Saskatchewan. Presley was born in Vernon, BC in 1981 and moved to Vancouver at a very young age. In his mid-thirties Presley started to take an interest in his Haida culture. He is currently working as a Journeyman Carpenter and has had an interest in sculpting since he was a young man. Having a background in carpentry has made the shift to creating Haida artwork a smooth one for Presley.

Presley is currently being trained by Jay Simeon and has been influenced by his mother, Bernine Willians, to continue the Haida style of formline.
